I wonder......

( I have been jotting down in my diary every other day yet I have kept my feelings there not bothering to post it here, I just thought as to why not, I may as well let the world know.)

( Everyone is talking about the armed forces and the cops and their contribution to saving a number of people all round the world, THAT IS TRUE! , I adore those men out there, ever ready to fight till their last breathe to save ‘us’. But somewhere amongst all these, I WONDER, why did this all ‘have’ to happen??? WHY did this whole theory of ‘TERRORISM’ arise in the very initial place??’ I wish I could answer all this. Maybe the guy who was captured during the Mumbai attack will say things which will help me in this realization.)

I am neither a dove nor do I have a branch of olive in my mouth…yet…

It hurts. Doesn’t it?

When we see so much blood and gore around us.

It hurts when we see those brave men fighting and protecting us from the terror. It hurts to see young boys choose ‘terrorism’ ( jihad as they say to make it look great) as an option and ‘death’ as an ultimate choice.

None of us can forget the image of the young guys at the Chattrapathi Shivaji Terminus who fired shots like crazy and killed so many. These were the only shots or images we could access through our media.

I can’t forget their faces, they seem so like any other friend of mine; casual and determined. Only difference is that they are no softies like they looked. Almost 200 people paid with their life for all that they did. I can’t forget the anxiety I felt when I called up my friends in Mumbai to check out if they were safe. I can very well imagine the state of ones who were waiting with bated breath outside the hotels and hospitals for their loved ones.

Terrorism word has become a cliché today. Turn and look around, you will find it everywhere.

When I heard of the Mumbai blasts, I was shocked and even more so because Tamil Nadu is hit by the cyclone depression from Bay of Bengal and there has been non-stop rain and thunderstorms here. This obviously means power cuts. I got the news of the blasts almost 5 hours later and I was hurt.

HURT!!!

Every ‘Indian’ must be hurt. Right?

Not exactly hurt but angry? I was.

I was angry and I was hurt. I shed tears and I screamed at the terrorists and also at certain politicians who were doing nothing but rattling off insane words.

I cried when I saw the dead bodies of so many people, some charred and some with blood all over.

I was hurt when I saw so many people in anguish waiting at the hospitals. Something seems to keep gnawing at my heart.

When I saw the dead bodies of the various officers and commandos; I stood up and gave them a royal salute. The whole NSG , ATS and the police force out there, my heart was filled with pride as I gloated over the fact that they were ‘my army, my ATS, my police and my NSG’. But nothing has made me stop thinking of the terrorists too! WHY? The question is as simple as that.

WHY?

Why did they have to choose that option???

I don’t think anyone forces the decisions of life on anyone and if they chose to spread terror then that is what they chose to be their destiny. For a person like me or for that matter any normal human being that option seems so crazy and stupid and foolish and what not.. I do not have words to frame here. I am sorry. Those terrorists had immense determination, infact anyone who stays fighting almost 48 hours+ with hundred of armed men as opposition surely needs to be determined and maniacal. These terrorists seem to be one such group.

Just imagine if they had NOT been terrorists!!!

They would be extremely talented young men out there in some specific field doing their jobs and making a name for themselves.

I do not know how politically these things will be handled and am not going to sing a song of love and harmony either which may convert terrorists into saints.

But this questions keeps gnawing my self as I do not seem to get any satisfying answer to the same.

I wish ‘terrorism’ did not exist.

I wish for a lot more things.

I wish I was in the Indian Army.

I wish I could do something better than just writing blogs about this. I wish….

( This is part one in my series of blog that will try and go deep into this issue, not just the Mumbai bombing but also any terror attack in the world and try to find an answer as to WHY these young lads choose this path to attain their so called ‘martrydom’ )

@mr.unknown.( it would be great if you would be 'known' :) ) ok..now that you say that raving and ranting at a blog doesnt help..why don't you just give us some ideas or actions which will help us 'common' guys to do something..
if you want us to act..why not lead us?? Answer if you can! :)

we need to end poverty. tenqs for this article.. hope to see more from u

Yes true ... root cause of terrorism might be different like Poverty/ greed/ desperation to have a good life at least for the family.
But the question out here if we are talking in terms of Ajmal Amir Kasav is not just what made him do this , but now what??????
Should we the people of India empathize with him and his situations and forgive him for his doings ?? or should we punish him???? (There are examples of Human rights activists raising their voices over the issues of Hanging Terrorist in the past against the Indian President and law)
Accordingly there is another issue raised in this Blog that being should India Bomb Pakistan's terror regions or no. (Cause no matter what there is still going to be civilian death in that process which nobody can really guarantee).. or Should India as a country try and be patient towards the issue thinking that Pakistan is a poor country and radicals in that country are luring the youth into these terrorist outfits in the Name of Religion.
One more thing, Just because I am poor doesnt mean I go and kill someone to earn my bread. It is just not happening with Pakistan and India, there are lot othr problems (internal problems) involving lot many issues such as Naxalites, Maoists, etc. AND IT IS HAPPENING ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! may be in the name of religion or any other issue.

I agree one should eradicate the root cause of poverty in order to remove terrorism but even the local youth have to understand and should be taught these MORAL VALUES(of not killing an innocent being) right form Childhood, it is very simple and Parents can really preach that to children.
I am not trying to make a point here that only Muslim families should do that but all the people around the globe belonging to different ethnic groups should raise their children in the name of Humanity and teach them humanitarian principles so that they are not misguided in their future.

I am solely responsible for the comments I have made above if in the process I have hurt someone I apologize!

Regards
MN

for the Unknown -
Even before Jaipur Surat Delhi Ahmadabad, there was Kashmir, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Assam, Malegaon, and many others places respectively.

Not many people came forward then as well; But at least now people are coming and trying to do something about it.
Now about the issue of writing a blog - Why not ?
We can spread knowledge through it, Internet is a media that can unite people

U say u have been trying to curb Corruption can u atleast share some of ur valuable experiences so that we can follow those steps in order to fight against corruption.

I am asking this coz I really dont knw what should be done if somebody asks for a bribe especially in cases where in an govt office ; the official asks for a bribe- If I go through Judicial process (to tackle that kind of corruption) it might take ages before I really get justice and my work is being done !

u mite come up with simple things to follow such as if a traffic Hawaldar asks for a bribe - dont bribe him ask him for the fine and then ask him for the receipt as well (but why in the first place break the Traffic rules??? )

I agree all of us know what are the root causes of Terrorism, but has any of us really done anything about it? I also want to take some steps as u said but can u guide me how to do it ?? Coz there are ignorant people like me who dont know the exact laws, rules and regulations to handle issues like corruption. (and also no body can guarantee that I would get a fast result)

Also there were blogs for 49-O, it was really nicely debated upon and people came up with a conclusion, it was only because of Internet we were able to understand and access to all these important things that we were so negligent about earlier!

I agree with meg when it comes to the power of internet..

Internet allows people to exercise freedom of words in a very easy manner and helps them let out ideas; which reaches to so many people globally without any hitch..

Terror users use this very medium to galvanize their efforts. If only the common man knows how to use internet to communicate his power, the war would be half done..

AT THE BLOGGING ISSUE...

You got to understand this point! It is not just YOU, there are many more people out there who are doing things for the country, against terror, against corruption!
WHo said people did not do things before MUmbai terror attack? If its pertaining to me? Then maybe I should tell you that I have felt the fright of terror very near me; only difference it was not foreign terror it was communal internal terror!
You don't even know for sure if I am doing things and writing a blog alongside that! you just ASSUMED tat I am 'writing' and thats it.

I thought you had an issue with the TOPIC, but now i get it that you have an issues about BLOGGIN..that is ridiculous!

I understand, that actions matter more than words but remember that ideas and words churn actions.

I requested you earlier and i repeat now, why don't you share certain things you did which you think were helpful? They may be helpful for us too..

I don't mean the normal dont give bribe, pat fine n bla...give us solid solutions..

YOU ARE WELCOME TO SAY ANYTHING which is USEFUL in any sense..
And no, you were NOT RUDE..:) I can take in such things..( n yeah, wont ask your name again but i dont see as to what difference it makes)

@meg
Yes, my next post is about education but with a different theme. I am not answering questions in my blog , I am more of ENQUIRING so that people who comment can help answer them. That's my whole point..

@ Leks
I in my comments didnt ask only U the questions that were raised by me. It was for all of us including myself. Nor did I said that u shud be answering anybody's ques and shud write blogs that are more enquiring than those which come up with a concrete solution!
I guess u Misinterpreted me!

Lekshmi Nair said...

@meg
No, I did not. I just answered it from my side to clarify as to ‘why’ my blog did not have any solutions and only queries, queries and more queries. When you put forth the question of solutions to ALL, I just though I may let all know that my blog was just meant to be a piece of normal writing coz I was gnawed deep inside by the blood and gore not just because of who died but also because of them who ‘killed’.

I did not misinterpret your quote at all :)

@geet

I am talking about any ‘human rights issue’ but still you know when I think that maybe 80% of terrorists were lured out of common life to take steps as such and to become assasins; I just couldn’t be without writing this!!!
